MDFR’s Office of Emergency Management hosts multiagency hurricane exercise

(Miami, Fl) - On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, the Office of Emergency Management, a division of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), hosted a full day hurricane exercise with many of the agencies and organizations involved in post disaster response and recovery. The exercise took place in the County’s Emergency Operations Center in Doral, Florida.

“Bringing together community partners and testing plans at events such as the one today enhances Miami-Dade’s ability to rebound quickly following a disaster,” said Curt Sommerhoff, MDFR’s Assistant Director and County Emergency Management Director.
 
Through-out the year, the Office of Emergency Management, works with a variety of government, private, and non-profit partners to develop, enhance and test the necessary plans, procedures, and systems ‎needed to ensure that our community can recover from a disaster in an efficient and effective manner.

At various times during the year, numerous partners come together at the County's Emergency Operations Center in order to test specific plans and systems.

Today's exercise focused on the ability of the County and its partners to coordinate sheltering and human services following a major hurricane.
